The Department of Fisheries UGM is now pleased to announce that the 2nd International Symposium on Marine and Fisheries Research 2017 will be held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from 24-25 July 2017. The symposium will consist of different emerging topics in fisheries and marine sciences. English will be the official language for the symposium. Abstract and full paper should be submitted in English and will be peer-reviewed based on its originality and quality by the scientific committee. Participation will be encouraged from the broadest possible range of groups from academia, government institution, and industry.

The International Symposium on Marine and Fisheries Research (ISMFR) is a biannual symposium held by the Department of Fisheries, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Indonesia. This symposium is expected to be the primary focal assembly to share research outcomes and discussions on the role of fisheries and marine scientists in sustaining ocean ecosystems. The 1st ISMFR 2015 has been conducted successfully and attracted 93 participants, with keynote speakers from Australia, France, Japan, Korea, and Thailand.

Participants are kindly encouraged to contribute to the 2nd ISMFR 2017 through attendance or submission of abstract or full paper describing their original and unpublished research results. A maximum 400 words of abstract should contain the following information: title, authors and affiliation, objectives, materials and methods, results and discussion, and conclusion.

All the registered abstracts will be published in a conference book. The full papers will be subjected to peer review by scientific committee and the selected papers will be published in the IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Sciences, an open access proceeding that is indexed in Scopus, ISI Web of Science (Conference Proceedings Citation Index), El Compendex. The authors of selected papers should pay additional cost for publication fee (Rp. 1.000.000 / US $ 100). At the lunchtime, we will take you to a unique vegetarian restaurant called JEJAMURAN. This restaurant offers a variation of Indonesian traditional meal that made of Mushroom. Using their own cultivated Mushroom or from the local mushroom farmer in surrounding area, JEJAMURAN provides you an exotic taste of Indonesian cuisine with the healthy benefits from mushroom.

In the afternoon, you will be experiencing a volcano tour (lava tour). The adventure activities in the hillside of Mount Merapi, an active volcano located at the north part of Yogyakarta city. Touring using jeep, we will take you to the former village that was affected by the 2010 Merapi large eruption. Kinahrejo village is one of the area that was severely affected by the pyroclastic flow of 2010 Merapi eruption. Now, Kinahrejo is buried and left us some remnants of car, motorbike, utensils, house and bunker that were affected by the lava flow. We advise you to bring a spare clothes, jackets, hats, umbrellas and raincoats as the weather at the peak of Merapi is unpredictable and some parts of the track going across the river.
